Project 1 Feedback

Data frames. Use the whole area for the data if you can.

Scale bars units?  Should be numbers like 2, 10 20, 50, 100 etc and  (if 50, should have 2 or 5 divisions, not 3)

Significant digits?

 or or

What about this annoying bit here?

See the “ map service credit removal.pdf “ linked to the “what to open” page or this ESRI blog page.

Hack the code for the spatial reference, or just copy and paste it from the properties box. Don’t need all that jazz.

Select the dynamic text for the spatial reference, and format the “element” or “text.  Copy that, delete everything except the “pcs” reference.

Change this code

Spatial Reference<dyn type="mapFrame" name="Map Frame" property="sr" srProperty="name" preStr="Name: " newLine="true" emptyStr=""/><dyn type="mapFrame" name="Map Frame" property="sr" srProperty="pcs" preStr="PCS: " newLine="true" emptyStr=""/><dyn type="mapFrame" name="Map Frame" property="sr" srProperty="gcs" preStr="GCS: " newLine="true" emptyStr=""/><dyn type="mapFrame" name="Map Frame" property="sr" srProperty="datum" preStr="Datum: " newline……..

to just this code

Projection: <dyn type="mapFrame" name="Map Frame" property="sr" srProperty="name" emptyStr=""/>

and this is the result

“Projection: NAD 1983 UTM Zone 17”.

If you are in lat-long (geographic coordinate system) you shouldn’t use a scale bar! Scale changes across the map.  In general, geographic coordinates (lat long) is a poor choice for map display.

good use of space!

Maps plus data instead of just maps works too though.

These points could be smaller, they block each other

Could they overlap if they were hollow?  And show their value by size?

Formatting choices and information to bring forward.
Data? Names? Size? Halo? Bold? Within? Overlapping?

My color scheme (bottom right) isn’t very good.

I think that the sampling points is a necessary addition (just points, or samples with relative reading size), but they should be small
